FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE NEW YORK, NY Alebrije Press, a NYC-based illustration and design studio, today announced the release of its first comic work, Frayed Ends. This semi-autobiographical tale is written and illustrated by award-winning designer Jason Brightman. Yeah, I'm almost sorry to say, it's based on real events, actual situations and honest feelings. But I've always preferred the term nearly fictional for my stories, says Brightman. Frayed Ends follows Paul's adventures as he gallantly attempts to avoid all that's wrong in his life despite the best efforts of his friends to help. But when his childhood imaginary friend, Edward, returns, Paul can no longer ignore reality. My problem with most of the autobiographical work out there is it's tendency to be excessively focused on the authors perceptions and feelings, rather than letting the reader feel and experience the story themselves. The audience becomes alienated into irreverence, explains Brightman. By concentrating instead on the moment I invite the reader to relate to the story with their own experiences. I've had several people come up to me and tell me this story is their life. It's very gratifying. Frayed Ends is available for ordering now in the February Diamond Previews catalog. It will be released bi-monthly starting in April 2002; 24 pages with a four-color card stock cover and black and white interiors. About Jason Brightman |
